Scenario -
IBM System x3200 M2 - Model # 4367e1u
No onboard raid controller
1 SATA drive - 500gb - Install of WS2K8r2 - C: drive and auto generated System Reserved 100mb partition
Nothing special about the install. Patched and ready for future roles.
Need to:
Mirror 1st drive so that if it fails, this one simply takes over
Additional Info:
2nd drive purchased - same size - same manufacturer - Physically installed
Question:
How do I properly mirror this using software mirror so that if the primary drive fails, the 2nd picks up with little to no intervention?
I've done mirroring of simple data drives before, but not an OS drive. This system has to work correctly from day one. No guessing for me this time.
I have seen a GUI approach, and a command line approach when searching on Google. The command line approach seems to imply that anytime you do patches, you need to robocopy files?? What a mess!?! The GUI approach I'm not sure would be bootable? I'm really unsure if I've even found good information, so I'm hoping that one of you kind souls can give me a definitive answer, if not a step by step that will get me to where I need to be.
Thank you! :)
