I had a downloaded copy of Server 2008 R2 that I had previously used for testing. That machine was retired. However, I am setting up a test environment and need to load Server 2008 R2 on 2 machines. I want to use the trial version right now, until my test is successfull, and than one will move under a Server 2012 R2 Datacenter box, and the other will get a valid license.
I re-used the ISO I downloaded from the last trial, and configured everything I needed. However, when I go to license it, I receive this error:
0xC004F074
Error Details: The software licensing service reported that the computer could not be activated.
Research seems to show this being related to KMS Server. I do not use a KMS server in my environment, but still need to have a valid copy of Windows for a month or two.
Is there something obvious I am missing here? What will happen when I miss the activation window?
