I have created a DFS namespace on Windows Storage Server 2012 and am having an issue with mapping drives for for a particular subfolder.
As an example, my DFS share is \\domain\dfs\shared
The "shared" folder has a target folder that contains subfolders of departments. All users have a mapped letter, let's call it Y, for the parent folder. Then they also have another mapping, let's call it Z, for their specific department folder, just for convenience. I have set NTFS permissions on each of those subfolders. So while everyone has a mapping to the "shared" folder, they will only see what they are allowed to see. Admins see everything. For instance, I may have:
\\domain\dfs\shared\tech
\\domain\dfs\shared\marketing
The issue that I'm having is that I am able to successfully map everyone to the parent folder, but I can't map users to one of the subfolders. In this example, let's say I can create a Z drive for tech, but I can't create a Z drive for marketing. I know the path is correct because I can pull up the folder in explorer without any issue.
Through GPO, the drive won't show up. If I try to map it manually through "Computer", it asks me for credentials, and when given, says something like "The network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password." I tried the net use command and I don't see this folder mapped already. I feel like this is a bug because I've tried nearly everything I know for hours and can't find an answer on Google. I actually have about 8 subfolders, and there is only one that can't be mapped. All others can be mapped without any issues. If I create a new folder though, I can't map that one either.
Does anyone have the slightest clue what it could be? If you need any more information, I'd be glad to provide it.
Thanks in advance.
