First hello to everyone and sorry if I am wasting peoples' time. I am a network engineering student doing a final project, and I am having a horrible time trying to figure out volume licenses and CALS.
My portion of our project consists of 'buying' 185 desktops for an imaginary business. They want the ability to make 1 image of a machine that is exactly how they want it and use it to deploy to any of the 185 bought machines without having to enter in a separate cd key with each machine. I figured that would require volume licensing.
The problem is once a rep from anywhere hears "just a student doing a project" they find a reason to put me on hold and not come back, so I can't even get a round about estimate for 185 machines for a volume license.
The second part I was tasked with *I think I got the short end of the stick* was to figure out specs for 8 different servers, the licenses for server 2008 r2 standard edition, plus one of the teachers told me I may need CALS for each client machine.
The general idea is that to do their job the employees of this business must connect to software running on a server 2008 r2 machine. I am unsure if this qualifies as needing a CAL.
The whole thing is extremely confusing to someone who has never had to look at this sort of thing before. If anyone could even sort of help me figure things out, I would be extremely grateful. I don't even need perfect numbers. Even just a round about idea of price would be enough to start.
Thank you in advance.
